If you are a music lover, “France Festivals” has just issued its 2007 guide named “le tour des festivals” that lists more than 90 different events from opera to chamber music, from classics to new and original programmes; altogether a choice of more than 2000 spectacles proposed to French and foreign aficionados, including those who come to learn French in France!

Recently Elfca had the pleasure to welcome a very nice young woman from Iceland married to a (half) French man and living in Hyeres hinterland. On the second day of her course, this pretty mother of three, an actress in her country, caused a big surprise as she arrived riding a huge motorbike, in spite of the cold and rainy weather which had suddenly struck the whole country, not even sparing the extreme South of French Riviera, where French language school is located.

“Just goats” laughs learner of French in France

The mysterious animals which aroused curiosity at French language school last week were finally identified as goats after student had sent the shots via e-mail to the school computer. “Only goats!” deplored the photographer who had imagined more exciting monsters… But the pictures were superb, and these goats certainly not ordinary ones, as they were really huge and their horns very high and twisted. And anyway the whole affair was quite appreciated by all those who study French in the South of France.

A funny controversy recently fed conversations during French course. A group of American students said they would “go to the ocean this afternoon”. Immediately, students from other countries burst into laughing, advising them to leave early as it was quite a distance to the Atlantic coast! Well, it appeared that it was neither a vocabulary nor a geography mistake; they just made no difference between the words “ocean” and “sea” and thus in French between “ocean” and “mer”! “But Elfca is a French language school by the Mediterranean SEA!” insisted the others.

As usual, the beginning of the year brought news from all over the world. Mainly season’s greetings from former students who like to keep in touch, until they get the opportunity to come again; but this Monday carried a different message: a lovely former teacher at Elfca e-mailed from Singapore where she teaches now. Quite a long way from Hyeres where French language school in Provence is located.

On this beginning of February, the bright sunshine has “misled” many plants and now pink, lilac, blue and yellow flowers are blooming everywhere, and the school garden looks like a painting from Monet.
