Fashion parade for the Japanese girls who study French on the French Riviera

Last Sunday, 3 fashion parades were organised in Hyeres shopping center “Centre Azur”,and a group of Japanese university students attending a two week-French course at ELFCA French language school actually adored such an original and exciting event! A great occasion also to let oneself be tempted by one of the smart and colorful spring clothes that fill the numerous shop windows.

French immersion course among flowers

A good surprise for the residents of Hyeres area and the numerous school spring holiday tourists: 3 days before the float parade, Hyeres recently elected town council decided to suppress entry fare; so everyone could enjoy the magnificent spectacle free, and no one thought of complaining! It was a great afternoon full of music, colours and fragrances, achieving with a giant flower battle in which everyone took part including the foreigners who learn  French on the Mediterranean coast.

“Tea or coffee?” learners of French in France ask.

Midmorning break at French language school

A spirited discussion the other day at French language school cafeteria between tea and coffee drinkers; eventually, it appeared that tea appeals more to females than to males, that the youngest don’t care much for coffee, that French coffee is too light for the Italians and too strong for the rest of the world, and that water is the best drink one can have, especially after a late and well-oiled night….which happens sometimes to learners of French on the French Riviera.

Learners of French in France go to “Auditorium du Casino des Palmiers”

Mid-April, a festival called “Faveurs du printemps” gathered an enthusiastic crowd at Hyeres Casino auditorium. Six  concerts proposed by Tandem from 10th to 12th April, all different but with one common point: all are French groups but all sing in American and on American rythms: folk, pop, country folk and pop-electro were on the program, and were very much appreciated by some learners of French in France on the Riviera.

Lots of new experiments during French immersion program

A group of learners of French on a Saturday tour to Marseilles decided to try one of the specialities of South of France: they went to a very famous sea-fruit restaurant near “La Canebière”, and treated themselves to a giant “plateau de fruit de mer”. Well, actually it was not exactly a treat for everybody! Some of the participants were really reluctant at swallowing live oysters and when their Sweedish companion explained they were eating the sea urchins reproductive organs, they were definitely put off! But the majority showed courage, and the comment “delicious” was even expressed by one of the participants to French language course on the Riviera.

Interesting exhibition visited by students of French language school

The Rotonde du Park Hotel is a very special place; first of all, it’s part of a magnificent Belle Epoque building, right in Hyeres town center and its setting in a lovely Mediterranean garden planted with bitter orange trees would suffice to justify the visit. But it also receives very original exhibitions, and the last one, “La Partegue”, about ships, sails and wood pieces gathered on the shore really fascinated participants to French immersion course on the Cote d’azur!
