Spring in South of France brings back a particularly remarkable event: the flowering of wistaria. As the town of Hyeres, on the French Riviera, is exceptionnally rich with gardens and green spaces, many of them containing one or several wistaria trees, the shade of which is very appreciated in hot season, it becomes suddenly bursting with gorgeous mauve clusters of tiny sweet-smelling flowers; just like walking in a dream garden, said  Elfca students who learn French in France here.

Sea-fruits fete in Toulon, 12klms from French language school

 

Thanks God, the weather was glorious last Sunday for the occasion. For the fete had already been postponed once, due to a mistral storm that made it impossible to stand upright for anyone but a colossus or a sumo. And the quays of Toulon Port Saint-Louis were crowded with thousands of gourmets queuing patiently to buy the dozens of oysters, mussels and sea-urchins that were to take them to heaven, as assured the group who had come from Hyeres where they take French language courses in Provence.

A good suggestion for those who want to visit around: rent a car together for the week-end, and drive to the Zoo de la Barben! Located between Marseilles and Avignon, it offers to visitors a “journey in emotion land”: more than 600 animals for 120 species, living in a natural space of 33 hectares. The encounter with some very unusual creatures particularly raised the enthusiasm of the group of participants to French language immersion programme.

The Guide du Routard’s latest edition of “Petits restos des grands chefs” has just been issued. More than a hundred new names quoted and about fifty suppressed to convince the readers that  “good doesn’t necessarily mean expensive”! And among the addresses, eight restaurants of Var department have been elected by the Guide. “We’ll try them all” assured gourmet students who learn French in Provence.

 

“Jazz maniacs” at French language school

To continue the magic of Jazz festival in Porquerolles, organizers and jazz fans have a date at Theatre Denis every two months. Last Saturday, they (re-)discovered Bojan Z whose style – a clever mixture of talent, inventiveness and brute energy – was described as brilliant by the spectators among whom foreigners who study French in the South of France.

In Elfca’s garden, some particular trees raise students admiration : two lovely blue palm-trees of an incredible colour, so elegant and rare, standing proudly on both sides of the path. A pity their small fruits looking much like dates cannot be eaten, deplored students who learn French in the South of France.
