February comes to an end and we've hardly seen 3 days of dull weather – more exactly 3 nights – while the sun shone all the rest of the month. At lunch time, the students of our French language course have their salad or sandwich on the French language school terrace and it's hard to believe it's winter.

On 14^th  January, just like the rest of the world, France celebrated Valentine’s Day. But traditions varies from country to country, and in France there are very few cards sent for the occasion; Valentine’s Day is mainly a pretext to offer a present to your beloved, and it certainly is a special day for jewellers, florists and chocolate-makers! At Elfca, a US gentleman brought delicious cherry and brandy stuffed chocolates charmingly named “Mon Cheri” that he offered to everyone, men and women, and his initiative was fondly appreciated by all those who study or teach French language in Provence at Elfca.

Students at Elfca French language school follow with great interest the campaign for local council elections; one of them got a great success in class when he reported that he had shaken hands with three different candidates on the same Saturday morning at local market on avenue Gambetta. No doubt the whole school will be there next Saturday to try and break his record! A proof that in a way, foreigners get involved in local politics, even if only during their French language immersion course in South of France!

Year after year, Nice carnival attracts thousands of visitors, and year after year foreigners who learn French in south of France seize the opportunity to attend the parades and also to visit Nice and the surroundings towns and villages, such as Menton, Monaco or even the “Alpes du Sud” where they can find snow on good years; and 2008 is definetely one, as the Japanese young woman who tripped there last week-end reported to her Friends at Elfca French language school in south of France.

Students of French language were very surprised to notice that most plants and trees in the area have started to blossom, althought it’s very early and spring is not due before a good month. Actually, it may be dangerous, for sometimes a cold wave comes all of a sudden, and even if it never lasts for long, it can be enough to burn the tender buds. But for now, all everyone wants to do is to enjoy the bright sunshine and marvel at the astonishing almond- trees with their dazzling white halo, the sweet smell of which positively ravished Sweedish lady here to learn French in the south of France.

An opportunity during your French immersion course

Taking advantage of the lovely weather, same students of French language school decided to go on a boat trip to Ile du Levant last Sunday; They left Hyeres harbour in the early morning and after a one hour great cruise, they reached the tiny wharf that can only receive two boats at a time! The village, very quiet at this time of the year, spread lazily to the top of the hill, secret half hidden by the luxuriant vegetation. “A trip out of time, the feeling that you’re thousands of miles away from this hectic world” was the conclusion of our group of students who learn French in Provence.
