Excursions
A complement to your French language course: St Tropez, Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Marseille, Avignon...You will certainly not have enough time to visit all the places of interest for which the region is renowned! We have already mentioned our 3 Golden Islands, which have inspired so many writers and film producers.
Not far from Hyères, Mont Faron offers a magnificent view of Toulon bay, as well as an interesting memorial to the 1944 Allied landing in Provence. Bormes les Mimosas, Le Castellet, Méounes... old Provençal villages, with old churches, narrow streets and flowered houses are all worth a visit. Connoisseurs will not miss the opportunity to go round the wine cellars of our "Côtes de Provence".
A little further on, 50 klms, is Saint-Tropez, with its port and its fashion. Lovers of large towns will perhaps like to visit Nice (140 klms), Cannes (110 klms), Monaco (160 klms) and on the way stop for the potteries at Vallauris, the glass-works at Biot and the perfumeries at Grasse. Marseilles, France's second largest city, is only 80 klms away. There you can visit the Basilica of Notre Dame de la Garde, which keeps watch over the city and you can go by boat to the Château d'If, an ancient prison made famous by Alexandre Dumas' novel "le Comte de Monte Cristo". In the interior countryside, you will be impressed by the sheer cliffs of the Grand Canyon du Verdon (100 klms) with its emerald-green water. And what about a trek on horse back or a photographic safari in the Camargue (200 klms) where one can still find wild horses, pink flamingoes, bull farms and vast stretches of flooded land. These destinations are only a few examples of possible excursions, not forgetting Paris which is only 1 hour and 20 minutes away from our airport! |
