Windy Easter at French language school in the South of France

Learners of French in Provence amazed by Mistral

A French proverb says “Noël au balcon, Pâques aux tisons”, which could be translated with Christmas on the terrace, Easter by the fireplace, and that was very appropriate this year! For if winter was particularly mild, a few of us even remember taking Christmas lunch in their gardens, this very early Easter (23rd March) was marked everywhere in Europe by an assault of cold and rain or snow, and on the always sunny Mediterranean coast, by a wild Mistral that spread chaos inland and on the sea; a stupefying spectacle for all and even more for the foreigners who learn French in the south of France.

Recently Elfca French language school had  the pleasure of welcoming a group of students from Liechtenstein. Although they were a bit younger than the majority of our usual clientele, mainly constituted of professional people, they got on very well with them and once more the “mayonnaise a pris”, as it always does among the people of all ages and nationalities who learn French in the south of France.

Learners of French try Creole food

Caribbean cooking suits French immersion course

Do you like spicy food? That question having generated an enthusiastic “yes”, a group from French language school decided to go and try Caribbean cooking at a tiny new restaurant in town center, prettily named  “le bois lele”. Besides specialities from the French West Indies, it also offers “cari”, the Reunion version of Indian curry; our daring students even tried  ’ti boudin, a very hot blood sausage, and they liked it, except for an English girl who declared she’d rather eat the marvellous provencal cuisine of the host familly she stayed with during her French immersion course!

One hour-sleep less for learners of French in France

May French immersion course occasion tiredness?

A hard time for all those who go to bed late at week-ends: on 30th March at three in the morning, time jumped forward! It wasn’t too bad on Sunday actually, as most people stay in bed anyway with no alarm clock to stress them, but on Monday morning it was hard to get up before sunrise, and everybody frequently yawned during the first lesson at Elfca French language school on the Riviera!

“Happy like a dog in France!” jokes student of French language school

Learners of French in France appreciate dog’s life

Recently, at Elfca French language school, a German student quoted a proverb from his country that said “happy like a god in France” to express perfect felicity. But the conversation quickly degenerated as ironic Spanish added that it would be more appropriate to say “happy like a dog in France”, in consideration of the way the French treat their animals! Finally, “it’s probably excessive but nevertheless very nice and rather amuzing” was the general conclusion of participants to French language course.
