Flower float parade for those who learn French in the south of France

Sunday 1st April, the town of Hyeres organises its traditional “corso”. For the last few weeks, associations and clubs of all kind have been busy building their floats, poetical or funny or strange frames of wire netting that will be covered with flowers the day before the parade; an incredible work, but a magnificent result. And at the end of the parade everything will be sacrificed in a giant battle of flowers.Of course, all the foreigners who learn French in Hyeres at the moment will be present

Everywhere in the South, April and May are amateur-gardeners’ favourite months, for every town and village organizes a plant fair. As usual, one of the most important ones is that of Hyeres, and it’s one of the most ancient too. The whole town centre turns into an enchanting garden, and one would not be surprised to see nymphs and elves dancing around. Instead, one will surely meet all the area lucky garden owners, but also, drawn by the beauty of the event, many visitors among whom participants to French immersion course in the South of France.

Created in 1968, Cross Med is in charge of navigation security in the French Mediterranean area. Its activity is more visible in summer for it rescues inexperienced boat owners who put themselves in critical situations, mainly out of carelessness. But it surveys Mediterranean navigation all year round, and is very much appreciated by fishermen and yachtsmen, explained teacher to interested students at French language school in South of France.

Not one square, one street, one district that did not have its lily stall, most of the time hold by non-professionals as this is a one-day- job! But the offering of such a delicate flower on that precise day was found much more interesting than the usual 1st May demonstrations by those who learn French in France on the Riviera.

Participants to French immersion course are full of attention

 

First Friday of May was a good day for staff at French language school: two English ladies who were achieving their course came to school with a box of delicious almond macaroons they had bought at a very special home-made-biscuit shop in the heart of the medieval town, on Place Massillon. “We’re happy with all our students, but we’re just a little happier with you both!” commented teachers at French language school on the Riviera.

Strange trees grow in the garden of French language school

 

Tiny orange fruits in Elfca garden aroused some Scandinavian students’curiosity. “ What kind of fruit is that?” they asked; “A dwarf tangerine or an orange olive?” “Well, try one” Director said. “Are you sure they are edible?” worried cautious Scandinavians. Director picked  a fruit and ate it. Students did the same and pulled a face: “Yuk! That’s awfully sour!” were the first words one of them uttered; but after a few more tryings, they all started to enjoy that strange taste and the little tree was soon pilfered by the greedy learners of French language on the Riviera.
